My first review in ages.
Man, I just did an in depth, line-by-line review of a long piece by my friend Tobber. It was quite good. The mistakes were trite and the emotion really shined and she used wonderful show of emotion rather than telling it. It was written in present first person. I would find that tedious to do. Truly, editing other’s works is easier than editing your own. It felt good to do a review. Unfortunately, I won’t be getting GPs because I think I’ve reviewed her other works. All the same, I am glad. It took me over two hours. I am curios how Tobber will respond.
Well, I have fifteen days to perfect my story before submission to the anthology. I think it will end up okay at the present rate of improvement. Perhaps I will get a review in the FSFS Review Board.
My mom went to a brief doc’s appointment and came back from the store with frozen pizzas and ice-cream. Jim rearranged and vacuumed the living room. It looks nice. He put the exercise bike in the computer room. It’s a little in the way.
So here I am-thinking about what to write. The trip to Denver comes to mind. I can’t wait. I want to see wild bunnies. I may be off WdC for the duration of the stay. Maybe I’ll be able to use my bro’s word processing program. I’m dying to know how to instantly highlight text without doing it with the mouse. I’ve done it a few times accidently.
What makes a good story? I think a bad story can be good if it is only written well. As long as you use good grammar, transition sentences, show and not tell, avoid info dumping , use a good pace, give ample descriptions and make solid characters, your story is great. One thing I’m trying to do is not info dump and avoid using exposition rather than scene. My old writing portfolio professor told me this.
I think I will put this into practice and enter the Writer’s Cramp tomorrow. To do this, I will write beginning exposition and then turn it into scene, but I have to space it out.
Jim will be home at 6pm. He went in at 10:15am. Tomorrow he goes in at 9:15am.
My moms’ b-day is on the 23rd. We’ll do something special for her in Denver I’m sure. I imagine a chocolate cake. She loves chocolate.
Well, that is it for me. Goodbye.
