Part VIII – Purple Skies

Chapter Thirty-Nine – Negotiating Wares

DragonBlue felt she could travel the following day
Their magick jewelry box, Muab and she were to portray

A presentation to a shop owner; twelve blocks down from their station
As the sky with no light visible was gray then a purple hues formation

Bluish lightening flickered off the edge of the buildings; and lamppost tops
Dancing between the ground and clouds on the horizon like rain drops

The ground was hard and barren without any hope of new growth
Even the rocks seemed to have a purple mist decaying them to show

Their smooth exterior in depletion
Was pitted with sharp indentations.

The shop they approached was brightly lit in a fluorescent haze
Through filthy plate glass windows, dirt graying in a dark glaze.

Upon opening the door; a bell rang as it pulled to a close
A well manicured man appeared in a suit and tie as he arose
To reveal a dark mustache and pointed black beard that bowed.

He had hard black eyes that held no warmth or friendliness
And an aura that bespoke of a death chilling coldness.

When he spoke his voice was as smooth as glass
With an underlying depth that betrayed a wrath

He looked at each piece Muab showed to him and failed to barter
Or bicker over the price for each bauble he agreed to like a martyr …

DragonBlue took note of others behind him in the back room
That appeared to be hard at work and that; none too soon

Were gathering at the doorway to listen to his concessions
To pay any price that was offered by Muab in rapid repetition.

DragonBlue counted five; then sensed behind her four more
The three large and sultry human forms entered through the door

The dark man whose name was Snyder Pike then said, “It’s the entire box I wish to buy”
Muab replied, “The jewelry box is not for sale; not now, not ever nor will it be otherwise.

With these last words the box disappeared among her skirts
As she swept the money up for the purchase of the other works—

Then within her hands there formed a ball of fire from electricity
That grew larger with each kneading of her fingers like a currency

She dropped the ball as her other hand reached to turn the knob
And the three who stood before the door jumped back and fell atop

Each other as DragonBlue pushed her way through
Right behind Muab as up the street they were pursued.
