Best of Times, Worst of Times
The flower children want their way.
It makes no difference what we say.
The crime they flog is "different thought."
"Agree with us, with what we taught."

Returning back to moral ground
is what we need, I've always found.
Be good to those, who share our Heart,
as well to others. There, we start.

Though one may tear the leader's speech,
while seeking cause his job to impeach,
the character of childish souls
will always show contrary goals.

To give us hope, that we may see
the ways our God has made us be,
perform our best, restoring whole
the nation's soul is a worthy goal.

To enter through to days of bliss
may cause us to wonder how to do this.
Will thoughts be universally taught?
Will social place be merit bought?

Is unity a possible goal
before our hearts from sin are whole?
The ways we're moving are filled with hope,
but sinful still, can we yet cope?

The Prince of Peace will come to reign,
throughout the world will favor gain.
Before it's true, the worst will be,
since Revelation makes us see.

The Garden showed us how to live
allegiance to the Creator give.
Yet, when we fell and broke the world,
God's saving banner He unfurled.

The worst of times are lived in sin.
Each day defeat. We never win.
Repenting we can seek the Son.
New birth transforms. The victory's won.

The best of times will be complete,
when newness, wonder, then we greet.
We'll know the ways of Christ will soar
to fit us for the Evermore.

The title of this poem came from this famous quote.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

― Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
