Beautiful is best, stash your cigarettes
And down your unfinished drinks
And get your work done by five
If you plan it right
Beat the rush home for dinner
Where another cold case waits

The kids are arguing loud again
She's on you about more than trash
-- This time slowly elapsing --
Until medication rushes down with
Bitter cola and frozen cubes unclenched

The TV softly washes your dry,
Pale face, slow-learning in recline
(Comforted by a burdened chair)
In the small area inside your domain
Where reality slowly creeps in.
