Following the Carrot
Following the carrot will win the race.
I see the place
a little trace
in front of my face,
but ne'er will I arrive.

Following the carrot, I run quite hard
still filled with lard,
a tubby bard,
not much for chard.
I've not yet lost to thrive.

Following the carrot, I do some more
of what I did so much before,
the same results a daily chore
from morning 'til I start to snore.
I'm treading donkey's hooves.

Following the carrot, now what's the point?
I'm out-of-joint.
I need a point,
that oils anoint.
What leader thus approves?

But changing the carrot's a different goal,
a heart made whole
in spirit, soul
a needful role
is reaching daily dreams.

The change becomes a carrot cake.
It's iced to make
the tastebuds quake,
that dream or wake
our Hope is what it seems.
