Fear and Comfort
It was the fear that stalked her
came home beer-soaked, if at all
Fear that murmured in the darkness so she
kept the lights on and the TV talking
One hand flicking anxiety away in the ashtray
watching her life crumble into grey until
fear became a diagnosis and still
she regretted him more than the ashes
