The best way I know of to count my blessings is to keep a daily journal recording the best thing about each day. I thought it might be nice if we had a community journal here at WDC where anyone could enter the "best thing" about their day. Believe me, whenever you're blue, or lonely, or not feeling well, it is wonderful to go back and read the journal entries. One day it might be something material and the next spiritual - whatever strikes your fancy. So please, be my guest and join me in a wonderful journalling experience. | The best thing(s) about today is: Energy - something I didn't have last year - today I washed crystal, scrubbed down the furniture on the front porch and fixed a really nice dinner to boot. Dinner - just Bob and I - but I set the table as though we were having company and we just took our time and enjoyed each other and our meal. Two tiny baby sparrows on the lawn this afternoon - chirping and hopping away - really tiny and very cute. Friendship - a call from a good friend prompted me to invite her over and we sat outside and had a nice cup of tea, blueberry turnovers (yum) and a really good visit. A call from my son, John, this evening and a really good talk about the wonderful vacation he had with the entire family, 4 generations, hosted by his father! |
| The best thing(s) about today is: The weather - one of the most beautiful days of the year - about 80 and sunny with a nice breeze and no humidity! Cherrries - I love them - super ripe and juicy Corn - no I didn't eat any - we drove past a lot of farms today and I was amazed at how tall the corn grew in just a week. Dinner with friends and playing catch up with them. A sunshower - pouring rain while the sun is shining ever so brightly. Mother Nature with PMS?  |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Waking up in our own bed!!!!!! Waking up and feeling a cool breeze - sweet relief! Sitting with a cup of coffee and going over all the mail - I only read the good stuff - no bills A nap!!!! Catching up with friends The weather - it was a truly beautiful day - nice and warm and sunny with no humidity! Our garden looks lovely - a very kind neighbor kept it manicured while we were away. The blessing of good friends. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Raven's remission is SOLID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We're home - it was wonderful to be away but there's no place like home. All our flowers are alive and well. One of the tomatoes in our garden is starting to turn red - yea - homegrown tomatoes - yum No more laptop - I can keyboard again A whole new set of wonderful memories I'm thankful to God for everything, but today, especially for Raven. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Sleeping late! Shopping - Home Goods - what a great store!!!! Dinner - Linguine with Shrimp and tomatoes - yum NOT watching television Boylan's Root Beer - Bob's favorite but hard to find - we got some!!! A rather large bug, caught in a pretty small spider web Laughter and reminiscing -my sister and I did a lot of this. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Hair that's long enough to pin up - no fuss. Nerve - at least enough to wear shorts in public - it was very hot today. A trip to Ocean City, a very cute little town on the Jersey shore. Delicious crab cakes for dinner and a bloody mary (no vodka).yum Spending another day with Pat and Joe. Going to the movies tonight. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Raven's fever broke Mass - in N.J w/my sister and brother-in-law. A nice drive after church. Playing cards and just having a fun day visiting. T-bone steaks on the grill - yum. My hair looked decent all day. |

| The best thing(s) about today is: One hour of silent devotion in Church early this morning. I was the only one there and it was an incredible hour The really beautiful drive to the N.J. shore this morning. Lunch on the road - shrimp salad - yum A pink t-shirt - Bob bought it for me at a gift shop in a rest stop. Driving down to the beach and seeing all the children - such energy! Dinner- a clambake - clams, shrimp, lobster, corn on-the-cob and potato salad. Yum, yum, yum A very tiny, pretty little park in a small shore town. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Me - was out all day taking care of myself. I highly recommend it. Went shopping and got some great clothes, costume jewelry and shoes. Had a manicure and a pedicure and a massage. Then Bob took me out to dinner. Perfect. I now have ten little happies - (fire engine red toenails) As we were coming home tonight there was a fog rolling in, From a distance it looked so terrific to see it swirling around the mountains and reaching higher and higher. Family - we're going to the Jersey shore tomorrow for the weekend. First stop - a wedding for a member of Bob's family so we'll get to see everyone. Then, on to my sister's for a few days. Having a laptop - so I can blog while I'm away. (It's candy apple red!) I hope some people read this so they can see that I am living proof that dreams do come true and God does work miracles. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Freedom!!! It's the 4th of July and I am very proud of our troops - they are in my hearts and my prayers. Sleeping late - it was cool this morning (only about 60F) and oh so nice to just roll over, pull up the covers and go back to sleep. Lunch out with good friends at a local diner - BLTs all around. My children - they all called today Hamburgers, macaroni salad and lemonade for dinner. Chocolate donuts for dessert. Yum Taking time out today for quiet prayer |
| the best thing(s) about today is: We won! We went to the horse races today and it was so exciting. The weather was perfect and the horses are really beautiful. It was a really nice way to spend a day. We won enough on the first race to give us betting money for the rest of the day and then we won again so it paid for our lunch too. The drive there and back was very scenic and pretty. Lots of farms dotting the countryside - just like a postcard. Company on the front porch. After dinner my friend Barb came over and then another friend, Iris, whom I haven't seen in a long time. Just as Iris was leaving, Joann, the librarian, came. It was so nice to see all of them and to have such a nice porch that we can all enjoy. My nails look really good - the best ever I think. I've been trying to take really good care of them and it's paying off. After everyone left, just going back into the house and knowing Bob's here and working on a puzzle and glad to see me is just a nice feeling. A surprise phone call from my son, John and a really nice talk. Remembering to take time out to just reflect on how much I have and to say thank you. This gives me such a good feeling but I don't do it often enough. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: A taste test - did you know that Raisinets now come in milk and dark chocolate - Bob and I bought a bag of each today and sat out on the deck and ate a milk and a dark, and a milk and a dark... Results? It seems we ate them all before we could decide. A beautiful day - cool this morning but warm and sunny this afternoon. The garden - it's really growing so nicely this year. The tomatoes are really good and some of them should start ripening soon. The newspaper - we have the paper delivered daily and it was nice to read it again after being away for a few days. Friends with a serious problem have had a good resolution. A looooong telephone chat with a good friend. Topic: Politics, but we really are good friends so it was okay. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: We're home! We had a wonderful time but there really is no place like home. We went to Westerly, R.I. - Misquamicut Beach to be exact - beautiful -so beautiful that we booked a week in August. The ocean - so beautiful and very clean. The sound of it at night (we had a beachfront room) was better than any sleeping pill. The air there smells very sweet - I couln't figure it out at first - wild roses they grow everywhere, even in the sand! Happy, barefoot children everywhere. Lobster, lobster, lobster - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - triple yum! I even had a lobster BLT! A great new sunhat! A very beautiful, very tiny milk-white glass dove. Mystic Seaport, Connecticut - right next door to Westerly - it's a very quaint town and a shopping mecca. Cell phones - the kids were traveling too and we all chatted while we were on the road. The absolute best thing about today (and everyday) is God blessing me with Bob and the good health to travel and be with him anywhere. |

| The best thing(s) about today is: Brand new summery bedding for the guest room - all snowy white and crisp. Makes me want to be a guest! I have three climbing rose bushes, all red, and they are all blooming at the same time - they're beautiful. A surprise telephone call from an old-friend who lives far away. We talked for 1-1/2 hours. Chinese food - yum. A summer storm - it got so dark and windy and then the skies opened and it rained and rained - no damage, thank goodness and it cooled everything off. Such a wonderful thing to watch from the safety of a nice, cozy home. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Air conditioning! It was unusually hot here today. Hot dogs and homemade potato salad. A lovely drive after dinner - it is just beautiful everywhere you look at this time of year. Window boxes - ours are booming! It's definite - we called a contractor and we're putting an addition onto the house. The beach bus has started - every day at 1:00 a bus stops on our corner and picks up school aged children, takes them to the beach and brings them back at 5:00. It's completely chaperoned, the beach is lovely and clean and it's all paid for by a grant. It is a joy to watch the kids, all excited, board the bus and in the evening the same kids, get off the bus, only this time they are exhausted. Going to the market and seeing so many people you just have to chat with - small town living - you gotta love it. |
| the best thing(s) about today is: Raven's in remission!!!! A friend stopped by today and we sat out on the deck for a while. There was a tiny little ant on the railing carrying something about twice his size - we hardly spoke - we were fascinated by this very determined little any carrying this heavy load without stopping for anything. Lunch, on the porch, with Bob Curls, curls, curls - I set my hair in big rollers and it's all fluffly and curly. I saw my first firefly of the season tonight. Raven's in remission!!!!!!! |

| The best thing(s) about today is: A blog entry from Raven - what a wonderful surprise! The kitchen - we recently did it over and I just love it - I spent today doing a lot of cooking and a friend came over and I taught her a recipe and we had a wonderful time. A nap - it's been a while since I had one but I did today and it was well, delicious! A little baby - 11 weeks old, with sneakers on - they were about an inch long!!!!. The sky - today it was a deep, clear blue with not a cloud anywhere it sight a lovely drive this evening - down a very narrow, winding country road - so it ws a long, slow drive but beautiful. The trees and ferns are just so full blown they almost made a canopy overhead as we drove through. The road follows the river and so the sun was glistening on the water through the trees - it is truly beautiful. Pizza for dinner and ice cream for dessert! |
