This is just a small window into my chaotic yet lazy life. Oh, the life of an Information Technology Professional can be so exciting... Not so much, no. I'm a Fifty-something father of an amazing young man (I can't believe he's 20 now!), Atom and his brother, the Ever-Irish Finnegan (7 almost 8). I am married to my best friend and just wish I would have found her 15 years ago... I am a Geek, a Nerd and a Dork, but normal... I think. I DO collect comic books, on and off, as the money permits. I DO enjoy a good table-top RPG. I DO play MMORPG's and various other PC games. I DO live on the PC on numerous levels, but I think that we all do, to some degree. I was also in two rock bands that played in the Austin, TX area often, but I moved back to Southern California. I AM NOT a cowboy but I do own a farm in the mountains between Mojave and Bakersfield, I'm more of a Southern California Punk, if one were to generalize me.  Not to mention that I AM  Irish Which some would say explains a lot  Rambling, Ranting, Rating and several other "R" words can be found within these pages... There will also be Venting, Musings, Thoughts and Theories as well. While I cannot guarantee the validity of any of it , I can tell you that the topics shall range from  Love to  Science to  Paranormal Research to  Politics to  Writing ; no subject is taboo.Hooked yet? If you're not hooked in yet, just wait, someone may win a  MILLION DOLLARS!!!! Not here or by reading this blog, but somewhere in the world someone will win a MILLION DOLLARS!!! ...at some point... | I work from home on Tuesdays as that is the only day that we can't find childcare for Finnegan. It is like a delicate dance to get all of my access on the screen so I can help others with their issues. If I want to sign into VPN then I can have both emails in one Outlook app but it's very restrictive so I am opting for no VPN but using TeamViewer to remote into my desk laptop. It works. One day, normalcy will return and Finn will go back to school and there will even be before and after-school care... One day. Until then it M-W-Th-F in the office and Tuesdays at home - Not that I'm complaining. Steve |
| Good morning, Well it's Monday and I am at work. Computers won't fix or image themselves... This week at the farm we are trying to catch squirrels. I have five squirrel traps bated with Molasses-covered raw peanuts and granola. I'll check the trap lines when I get home. These squirrels like to get up under our cars and eat the wiring. I have one car already that needs about $600 worth of electrical work done. They also eat the goats, pigs and donkey's food. Our barn cat, Taz, is pretty useless as a barn cat but he's a great people cat so we're keeping him and getting a female, semi-feral cat soon as they are the best hunters. | Well today my wife departs again for week number five of out-of-state weekly travelling. Only two more weeks to go or until they find another place that needs fixing. Farm update: We cleared the lower corral for the upcoming steer. We still need to install some cattle fencing to house the shelter (that also still needs to be built) so we can protect a little against predation. Still a lot to do but we feel good that the clearing is done as it makes planning a little easier. Keep on keeping on! | So I felt bad all the way up until I went to bed last night. Yesterday I was convinced that I was going to be sick for days... I think we have that engrained into our minds that being sick takes time. Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and felt perfectly normal. It definitely took my by surprise even though I knew it was most likely going to be like this. My wife is a Front-line Essential Health-care Worker and she told me it was going to this way but I would have argued with her yesterday about it if she was there (She travels for work now, fixing clinics that have gone astray). So I'm good. Two weeks from yesterday I will be fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. I'm glad to be back at work (I actually like my job) and was worried yesterday about all of the work I had to do but here I am and I feel great! Well, my arm still hurts a little bit but I'll take it. Steve |
| So yesterday I got the second dose of nthe Moderna vaccine. I was fine until about 3am this morning when my injection site was very painful. I've pretty much slept most of the day. It should be better tomorrow. Steve |
| Well, today is a very foggy day @ B&D Farms (my farm in the mountains above the SoCal Desert) The Goats and donkey were happy to get their orchard grass and goat chow. Penny-Sue the KuneKune pig was happy to get her CSS Grower. The chickens were just happy to be let out of the copp and get some worms. Soon the spring grass will be ready for the goats and donkey to graze on so I won't need to use as much goat chow. All of our animals are super spoiled! We need to be careful with the donkey because the big thing to watch out for in donkeys is them getting overweight. So far so good; I think we found a routine that works for all of the animals. Our ranch dog, Callie-Jo, goes down with me morning and night and she is surprisingly good at wrangling the chickens from outside the fence. Taz, the barn cat, is pretty much worthless at barn catting but he is such a people cat we wouldn't change anything even if we could. That's it for now, back to work. | Good morning WdC'ers! EvilDawg - Vigilante Ranger!!  here. I hope this update finds you all well. I have been busy rewarding reviewers on behalf of The Vigilante Angel  and donating to contests.I see that this blog was mentioned in the Blogging Newsletter, that's pretty kewl I just hope that I live up to the mention... | I just talked with The Vigilante Angel and he and I are always on the same page. More and bigger rewards are coming to the WdC community! If you search the shadows of WdC and squint just right, you'll find us there, always watching and paying attention to what others are doing. We don't look for wrong-doers or the WdC underworld; we reward those who have been reviewing, hosting contests, writing and generally supporting other members of the WdC community. Just like us you have found a family in WdC and though we may come and go through the years as life demands more of us, we always come back to this uplifting community and rekindle old friendships and make new friends along the way. | And I'm back again - Update since the last entry: We bought a farm! We moved in literally 1 week before the Pandemic and we really took it to heart and embraced it. Now we have 4 goats, a Donkey, a pet pig and butcher pigs annually for meat, somewhere in the area of 26 chickens and 4 dogs and a barn cat. Life is good. Having a farm is hard work but we love it. So today I reinvested in my writing hobby; I renewed my Premium Membership for three months.  I am not sure how often I will be on but I have a lot of ideas that I have been writing down over the last few years and would like to get back into it... For sure. Limiting factors: I have a six year-old in first grade whom I pick up from school after work and we do his homework then his normal nightly routine. My wife gets home right after that and we hang out and watch TV or catch up from the day. Then there is the chickens... Yes we have 13 chickens and we love them (they are the pet you never knew you needed, trust me) and they take work as to the three dogs. So time is a commodity that is in short supply. Having said that, I am excited to be back. Steve |
