My first blog about my life, my favorite music, my opinions, my feelings. Whatever.
This is the first blog I've ever had! You'll have to bear with me because I'm still learning how to do this whole thing. I'll admit that it's bit of a mess right now. I started blogging for "The Soundtrack of Your Life and I couldn't just let it end there! I don't think there's any point in keeping a separate blog for all of the blogging groups I want to join. I'm going to keep them all in this one so I can grow into an eclectic pot of confusion.

What you'll find here:
*Bursto*My opinions on everything.
*Burstv*Blog prompts for various groups.
*Burstp*A different song everyday that means something to me.
*Burstg*Experiences I've had in life

WARNING

This blog is rated GC and will contain offensive language, stories, and opinions. Please don't read if you're easily offended! My intentions aren't to offend anyone, so trust my warning and turn back now or forever hold your peace! *Bigsmile*

Things I'll be using this blog for:

*Checkb*"The Soundtrack of Your Life
*Checkr*"Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise
*Check1*"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS

I want to hear from you!

As I mentioned before, this is my first blog. I'd love to hear from anyone who reads this. Leave a comment, rating, or review. Let me know what you like to read about. Have a suggestion for me to write about? I'd love to hear it. The best thing about a blog is the exchanging of opinions between bloggers and readers. I want to keep us all interested. Plus, it's just nice to get a little love sometimes. Let's get to know each other.*Smile*

*Heart* Charlie

Lyrics

I want to go with an old favorite of mine today. I was trying to hold out until the last day so I could go out with a bang, but I have premature adulation for Mariah Carey. It's a shock to me that, on Day 7, we still haven't had anyone pick this song. Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is a Christmas classic that influenced all of the musicians we've picked thus far. Tom Waits, The Pogues, Burl Ives... It all started right here, with this song.

I was all of three years old when this song came out, but I remember it like it was almost twenty years ago. This song was the only way to console me during a temper tantrum and it was the only lullaby that would get me to take a nap. I guess you could say that Mariah and I go way back. We've really grown up together, when you think about it, despite our 22-year age difference.

While looking up the lyrics, I found this fun article   listing 8 things we didn't know about "All I Want For Christmas Is You". As a Die Hard die-hard fan, I already knew all of these facts and could've written the article myself, but I thought it might be an interesting read for you plebs.

On this day, we celebrate the greatest Christmas song of all time. Cheers. *Glass2*

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you, yeah.

Song: Did I Make You Cry On Christmas Day? (Well, You Deserved It.)

Lyrics

Yesterday's song was too chill, so I'm back to the depressing songs today. Hey, someone's gotta do it. You're all getting way into the Christmas spirit, it's my duty to bring you down to level. *Laugh* Just kidding, I love you guys. Our playlist is awesome.

I'm pulling another left fielder today with Sufjan Stevens. If you know him, you'll know the song Chicago   from his album Illinoise. That's his most popular song, so you can might know it and not even know that you do.

Of course, this is probably the one Christmas song I can relate to the most. "Did I make you cry on Christmas day? Did I let you down like every other day?" Yeah, that hits close to home. But there are some bells in there, so it has a little bit of Christmas cheer, right? My favorite types of Christmas songs are the ones I could listen to any day of the year and not have someone say, "Wait, it's June, why are you listening to Christmas music?"

Sufjan Stevens is just all around one of my favorite newer singer-songwriters. By newer I mean like nineties on. He reminds me a lot of Elliott Smith, which, if you've read my blog before, you've probably seen a ton of his music here. I get on pretty epic Elliott Smith kicks that drag on for weeks and weeks. Sufjan Stevens is definitely no Elliott Smith or Conor Oberst.. Anyway, that's not what we're talking about here. The point is, I had a huge variety of Christmas songs to pick from Sufjan Stevens because he made five volumes of Christmas songs. It was either this or "That Was The Worst Christmas Ever", so really, I'm being more positive than I could've been. *Wink*

Man, this is only Day 5? Are we sure? *Laugh* It feels like we've been at it longer than five days, but maybe that's just me. The Christmas music is in full swing. Pretty awesome, right? I've not fully gotten in the swing of the holiday cheer, but I'm getting there. Maybe we'll get this BAH! out of my handle before the end of the challenge? *Bigsmile*

The Eels are the next band on my list and I might be the only one. I don't ever hear anyone talking about this band or anything, but they came out in '95 and their most popular song is probably Novocaine for the Soul  . I'm not exactly sure what it is that I actually like about this band, but I've been into them for a long time.

I figured they'd be a cool addition to our playlist and they have a positive Christmas song, so I don't have to be a Debbie Downer with this one. Sorry, Tom Waits, but it's true. *Pthb* The more I write this entry, the more I have no clue what to say about this song. I just like it, there's no explanation. *Thumbsup*

This is coming along pretty nicely, yeah? I was too busy half-working to actually read everyone's entries yesterday, but I did check out the songs that were picked at least. I prefer to read what people have to say about them though, so I'm going to try to make time for it on day four. I'm also trying to finish this entry before I go to bed tonight because I'll be helping my brother with his math final for most of the day tomorrow. This is also the weekend before my birthday (Wednesday), so partying is a must. *Pthb*

Up next I've got a song by the always great Kinks. L-O-L-A Lola. I love this band so much. They were way ahead of their time and so influential to the punk bands that came after them. I mean, seriously, that "You Really Got Me" riff in '64? I'm more than impressed by the Kinks. They had so many good songs and I listen to them quite a bit now. They're just a good time.

This song is pretty cool because it tells a story. What? A story? Yeah, a story. If you read the lyrics, it's pretty much straightforward. Poor kids rob Santa for his money and they don't want the toys because they're families are too starving to give a shit about materialistic things like that. They might've been able to sell the toys too though. I think I would've taken the toys.

It's kind of cool because when the song starts out, you're thinking, Uh, this is the Kinks?, but once they get into it, it's so Kinks-ish. It's like the epitome of the Kinks sound. I think it makes a great addition to the playlist, don't you? *Xmastree* *Music2*

It's time for one of the best hidden tracks ever. Yeah, I know the title and subject matter is a bit of a downer for the holiday season, but you'll accept it. *Wink* It's funny because the song is super upbeat in sound, just don't listen to any of the lyrics and change the title in your mind to something more positive.

Everclear is another band I try to include in all of our challenges here, just because they mean so much to me as a band. A lot of people think of this band as their few hits from the mid to late nineties, but this band actually released a couple solid albums that are good from start to finish. I think they sort of got lumped in with some shittier bands at the time, but I will always stand behind Everclear and Third Eye Blind as amazing bands. I really believe that.

When I think of this band, I think of summer. I haven't gotten to experience the west coast summers as much as I'd like to, but when I think of west coast band, this is the one that comes to mind first. A lot of their songs were about that area, like Santa Monica  . (Hey, you might know that one!) I also think of them as a 'good time' band, even though a lot of their songs are rather depressing if you get into them, they still just remind me of drinking with friends and having a good time.

As far as their Christmas song is concerned, well, I think it's representative of the band's nature. They don't care if it's Christmas, they're still gonna hate you if you've wronged them. *Pthb* I love the quasi-tabooness of the whole thing. I think I just made that word up. Anyway, I love the idea that it could be so taboo to hate someone on Christmas; it's just another day.

Man, we aren't messing around with this challenge! Our first day was pretty epic, don't you guys think? I was surprised to see some of the songs pulled out as starters. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. I'm excited to see what we're going to come up with for day two. I'm going to go ahead and do this entry now that it's after midnight because I'll probably be too busy with work tomorrow to pull something out. Soo much work!

Anyone do the Pogues yet? If you know this band, aren't they awesome? If you don't know them, you should listen to them, they're awesome. *Wink* I love the Celtic punk thing. It just works so well and this band totally nailed it. Isn't it just our luck that they also did a Christmas song?

This is honestly probably my favorite 'legitimate' Christmas song. I love the intoxicated slur of the beginning building up to the traditional Celtic sound. I read someone refer to the beginning sound as 'Sid Vicious covering My Way and I can't think of a better way to describe it myself, so we're going to stick with that.

One of my favorite parts of this song is that I can listen to it over and over again and never think, "Oh, I'm listening to a Christmas song right now." It's super catchy and I like the lyrics too. I'm a big lyric person. I like to read them while I'm listening to music and I always feel slightly disappointed when a song's lyrics totally suck. Have you ever mistaken some lyrics, then you look them up and find out that your version is way better than the true lyrics? *Smirk*

I guess that's a wrap on this one. Yay, back to work... *Rolleyes*

Welp, I guess this is the end of my self-imposed blogging hiatus. Hey, a couple weeks is a long time for me. I'm excited about the latest Soundtrackers challenge, 12 days of Christmas. I don't actually like traditional Christmas music... at all. I think too many holiday seasons spent working menial jobs with Christmas classics playing from November 1st until January 15th messed that up for me, or maybe I never liked them to begin with.

Never fear though! I've already got a list of far more than twelve offbeat 'Christmas' songs that I'll have to narrow down to twelve. It'll be cool to see what everyone else comes up with, and we've got such a big group this time around, I'm sure the playlist will be kickin.

When I read the challenge guidelines, I knew immediately what my first song had to be. Yeah, the name's a bit 'unique', but you've gotta give it a chance. Tom Waits is, like, the epitome of cool to me and I think this song will break up any over-the-top holiday cheer on our playlist. *Wink* I try to include Tom Waits in all of our challenges; I'm happy this song exists so I could keep up with that tradition.

The fact that my name is mentioned six times in the song is irrelevant, but also kind of funny. The best thing about this song is how the letter tells this big story and then completely writes itself off at the end. The lyrics are actually pretty funny for such a somber song, if you take a minute to read them, you'll see what I mean.

I'm probably going to hold off on blogging for any of the groups for the duration of this challenge. Maybe I'll come back to it after the new year with a more energized outlook. It's cool though, my posts are probably long enough anyway without them. *Laugh*

Okay, that's as good as my start's gonna get. Now I'm gonna go check out everyone else's first entry. See ya guys.

Blogging has been kind of rough for me lately. I feel like I'm pretty much just half-assing it because it's a familiar routine. I don't want to get the prompts, write three sentences about each, and be done with it. That's exactly what I've been doing though, and I'm not digging it anymore.

I'm not exactly sure what happened. I used to write a lot about the general happenings of my life, but shit kinda hit the fan and I stopped because I thought it was 'too much'. Remember those authentic self and censorship prompts from yesterday? Now I can't get myself to open back up the way I was before, even though I've tried to an extent, I think... You know when you're talking to someone and it's like, "Whoa, dude, TMI"? It feels like that even though no one has given me any reason to feel that way.

So, basically, I'm gonna go ahead and stop blogging until I can get my shit together. It probably won't be long, but hopefully it'll jumpstart me and I can start actually putting my heart into it instead of treating it like a school assignment. I'll still be around though, of course.

Love you guys, have a nice Thanksgiving to my American friends.

I'm going to try to do this earlier today, so I'm gonna hop straight into the prompts. In Blog City, we were asked: What does authenticity mean to you? How can a person be authentic as a writer or in any other role? Authentic to me is about being true to yourself. This kind of ties into the BCOF prompt for today about censorship. I think to be truly authentic, you have to be genuine with who you are as a writer and a person. I've tried to put myself into a role that just "isn't me" before and it never works out for long. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take risks as a writer or otherwise, but you still have to stay true to who you are. There are certain things you just can't fake and you shouldn't try.

I'll go over to the BCOF where we were asked: How do you know when the censor is present? Is it a voice in your head " You can't write that!" Or if you cross out dangerous words and replace them with safer words? Choosing not to read your work out loud to anyone? Or do you feel guilty or ashamed, as if you have done something wrong? I feel like I censor myself quite a bit. I know that I'm censoring myself when I'm backspacing and saying, "Yeah, I can't/shouldn't say that." It's not a feeling of shame or guilt though. It's more the knowledge that I need to watch my mouth or I'll rub people the wrong way. I do it in real life too, not just when writing. I'll have something in my head that I really want to say, but if I know it will cause a fight or make people uncomfortable, I'll try to keep it to myself.

I'm in weekend recovery mode, so I'm hoping this won't take me all day to write like it does sometimes. I'll probably go back to work tomorrow. It's so nice to have a job where I can totally ruin myself over the weekend and then get an extra day to recover without consequence. That's quite possibly the only thing I like about my job.

Our Blog City prompt today is: What do you think is the best way to have a necessary but extremely uncomfortable conversation with someone? How could a character in a story handle this? Well, that all depends on your definition of a necessary conversation. I have loose lips and I can't let much slide without calling someone out. If someone upsets me, it's really difficult for me to not let them know how I feel about it. The people who know me well can talk me down pretty quickly and show me things from their perspective. The people who don't know what to do when that happens are usually not my friends for long, just because our personalities and the way we deal with things clash.

As far as a serious and important discussion, I'll usually make sure that the person has time to talk. Timing is very important. Don't ever try to talk to someone about something serious while they're in the middle of something else. You have to eliminate distractions, so I'll usually let them know that I have to talk to them about something and I need their attention. If you tell someone that you have to seriously talk to them about something, you almost always get their undivided attention anyway.

Then you have to go about the actual conversation in a calm and clear way. I don't try to build it up into something more, that's just confusing. I try to be straightforward and just say what's on my mind. It's going to come out anyway, so there's no reason to dance around the subject. Once I've said what I need to say, I'll listen to their response. I don't interrupt or try to explain my side any further until they're done. If it's something that might hurt the other person's feelings, you have to be sensitive to that. That's about all I got...

In BCOF, we were asked: What does Thanksgiving week mean to you? Does preparation for the Thanks giving begin on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday? What do those preparations include? I've actually never been a part of the holiday planning. I'm given a time and told to show up then. If I'm even ten minutes late, I hear about it. If it were up to me, I wouldn't celebrate holidays. I don't like this time of year at all and haven't been into the thanksgiving/Christmas thing since I was about eleven. I have lots of dramatic holiday memories with my family. It's rarely just a sit down and eat kind of thing.

As an adult, I don't feel the spirit of the holidays. I feel like I'm forced by family and social expectations to do certain things that none of us actually want to do. I'm about 95% sure my father doesn't even like me as a human being, so it gets pretty awkward. I don't say that to gather sympathy, but it's fairly relevant to the topic, so I thought I'd throw that in there. *Laugh*

The preparations for my grandmother and ma probably start on Wednesday, or maybe before, I don't know. They make a lot of food, all the basic- turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, pies, cakes, etc... I'm sure they start all of that at least the day before. I don't really get into the food. I mostly just sit at the table and talk to my brothers because we all get on well.

Put the flowers in your hair
Wrap your tendrils round my chest
I smile because I want to
I am your boy
