APRIL 2023 NATIONAL POETRY WRITING MONTH A Dew-Drop a Day in April for National Poetry Month Hosted by: Katya the Poet
My review of Saint Patricks Dayis based on professional editing points. It is meant to be honest, encouraging, and respectful in accordance with WDC guidelines.
THE POEM
St. Patrick brought us more than legends, he piqued our imaginations, too.
WHAT I LIKED
An acrostic isn't easy, and yet the author uses a good economy of words to sum up what St. Patrick has passed on down throughout the years.
STRUCTURE
This is an acrostic poem. An acrostic poem is where the first letter of a line is used to spell out a word or a phrase in the poem. There is an AABBCC etc rythme scheme.
MECHANICS
I did not spot any spelling mistakes. The poem is easy to read. Good use of WDC to go "green."
DESCRIPTIONS
I liked: "Irish eyes smiling, with warmed so bright," It's a very visual line.
PARTING THOUGHTS/SUGGESTIONS
You little overachiever! The rules said to use "ST" instead of "Saint" and technically, we didn't want any more lines after the "Y" line, but the poem ends on an upbeat (literally) which I appreciated. Line count was listed in accordance with the contest rules.
That's where I'm at right now in my life. There's someone I want to leave because of the problems I've had with him. When I was reading you're poem, it feels like that's what I've been feeling for a long time. There's no trust in the relationship and I'm ready to leave. My daughter wants me to stay with him but I'm ready to leave
This brought tears to my eyes. It seems you understand so much at a young age. Our senior citizens are so critical. I'm knocking on the door of senior citizenship, and I have to say it makes me sad. You've captured a great deal in this poem. Thank you for sharing this beautiful work.
