Check this item out: "Writing.Com 101" 
It goes into a little bit more detail about what sort of content requires each specific rating.

If there is extreme brutality and cursing, I would probably go with a GC-rating. An XGC rating is extreme or obsessive levels of those potentially offensive things. A good example of an XGC-rated item would be erotica.
