I've lived all over the place, but Oklahoma was always home. Oklahoma City is the captital, but Guthrie, just about 20 miles north, was the territorial capital. Now Guthrie is the antique capital of the area with antique shops found in the vintage buildings of downtown. Most people have the idea that Oklahoma is flat, red, dirty, and boring. Not so. The far western part of the state appears to be a bit flat, but it has hidden valleys and gullies, rolling hills, buttes, and a stark beauty all its own. The central part of the state has treed areas and large wheat fields that ripple in the breeze. The eastern section has lakes, trees, hills (even almost mountains). The state has vacation spots for campers, golfers, fishermen, hunters, or just those who want to laze around. Culture can be found in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Talaghee, the Cherokee capital, offers a history of the tribe and a re-enactment of the trail of tears. Actors, singers, professional athletes, authors, composers, and statesmen come from Oklahoma. We are known all over the world. I'll add more as I have more time. Plus there are other Okies on line. |
