"Like a Song" Poetry Contest

I have an emptiness inside me
A deep descending hole
And every time I revisit it, just it seemed to grow
No matter how hard I fight
I enter this endless dark of night
Even though I carefully step
I slip into regret
As I drown in a pool of my fears
I realize my burdens pull me down
As I fight for air
I can’t help but to despair
When all I see is my failure
I reach in one last attempt
To free myself from this death
Someone grabs my hand
Someone pulls me from my past
Someone saved me someone at last
As I crawl out of my emptiness
Search for who has saved me
I search and find nobody
Who has freed me from my cell?
It must have been God
Who else would have descended into hell?
As I lay beside my emptiness
Realize it’s just my weakness
All I have to do is keep the past behind me
All I have to do seal up this place
And I’ll be rid of this disgrace
