The Rescue


Wayward shadows drape
over our love, mingled with
a shroud of apathy.
They rob the soul of our words--
the heart of our hearts.

Revision somehow ripped regrets
from our carefree destiny,
while we forged ahead
seeking, as rightful heirs,
our eternity of bliss.

We claimed treasures
in our silent togetherness, tethered
by our secret bond of adoration,
sculpted in our sensual whispers
and forgiving smiles.

I had you on my lips, in my mind,
and my heart with each day,
as I hastened through my duty,
savoring the fall of night--
when we could embrace 'till dawn.

When did the binding for our bonding fray,
and deliver us into such dismal, redundancy?
Painful patterns of deliberate humiliation,
and brandished nonchalance.

The place you once called home
has changed to strange and cold.
Has hope left this sacred ground forever?
Our hearts so near love's conclusion. .
.
let us walk back to our beginnings,
before it's too late.
