Darling baby daughter, you died, but first you saved my life Amazing little fighter, all you knew was pain and strife New tiny bundle, with no hope for life, grave for a bed A baby loved, abnormal, as abysmal tears were shed Empty yearning arms, the endless longing for my newborn Loving you, a still living you, oh, how my heart did mourn I was so young, your soul so old, intelligence apparent Zygote's fateful genetic code---a foreordained event Assured the demise of the little Angel God had sent Brittle bones were broken with each and every movement... Endless nights of worry brought you no strength or improvement The medical professionals all smiled their knowing smiles Honestly assuring me you were fine, with their denials Had it not been for you, my days on earth were numbered Ultimately, the price you paid left me wise---unencumbered Ransom high and unrevealing, in hopeless hope we prayed Then tearfully laid you beneath the tombstone we displayed |
