When you told me you loved me,
I thought of the books.
Where the girl falls in love or the boy thinks she's cool.
How her friends all gossip and he blushes oh-so-bad,
And giggling, she nods when he asks to take her hand.
The band starts to play and they're moving so slow,
her head on his shoulder thinking, "Oh, I love him so."
And then the day-dream fades and I'm looking into your eyes,
I can't help but say, "Wow, this is a surprise."
Right back at me you laugh gently but reply, "Not really, I've just hid my feelings for a long time."
So I take a deep breath and plan out my script.
"It'd be nice to say no, but then I couldn't say this:
When you say that you love me I can't help but ask:
I know I'm not real nice, but what did I do to deserve this?"
