Note that Interactive chapters are measured in characters, not in words. 8000 words wouldn't fit in one interactive chapter.

The site does not "encourage" online typing. As documented in How To Upload Writing from Writing.Com 101  --

The site offers online typing as an input option, but the site recommends writing on your own computer and copy/pasting to the site (or uploading for item types where that is supported), so that people don't lose their work to the vagaries of the internet.

The site also recommends the Lazarus browser add-on for Chrome/Firefox, which saves a copy of what you type online as you go -- but on your own computer.

If typing online is your only option, the site recommends frequent use of copying to your clipboard, and especially before submitting.

Interactive chapters cannot be "partially" submitted for processing and storage. For "quick save" online typing, you would need to be using a different kind of storage space, and copy/pasting to the Interactive chapter form from there.

You can use your Notepad for drafting. Your Basic membership provides you two Notepad pages. The Notepad allows you to store work in a private space and save it as often as you want. You can also do your drafting in a Static item restricted to private access (access settings are located in the Advanced section of the create/edit page). For either method, using Lazarus and copying to the clipboard before submitting a save would still be recommended.

With Interactive chapters, the site particularly recommends saving a copy of your work elsewhere before submitting because you're storing the work in someone else's port and giving them control of whether it continues to exist there or not.

Hope that helps.
