netbooks have crap Atom processors and are really really tiny.

I use a Surface Book. It (or the Surface Laptop) is probably the best laptop that runs Windows and isn't a Mac. They are light, well made. Cost a bit more. But so does a Mac.

I have a Surface Pro 3. What I didn't like about those is the kickstand. On an actual lap, you need to hold your legs just right so it doesn't slip sideways. And if you use a lapdesk, beware of it slipping off and falling and cracking the screen (true story).
