Thanks for the reply. Sorry if the initial question seemed a bit accusatory.

It was late and I guess I just got a little paranoid when I saw the miner where something else should be since I recently learned that some sites have been caught using visitors to mine without their consent. I don't have any issue with the mining itself as long as it's opt-in. In retrospect it doesn't make much sense for a site that lets you decide whether to be used for mining or not to also do it secretly anyway.
