A sustainable and feasible way to make interactives available seems like it could/ should be a priority of this site. I'm not sure what the intention is behind the gates on the interactive chapters, but it seems extremely counter intuitive. The internet is currently a very competitive environment, and an increasing number of Choose Your Own Adventure sites are appearing without gates. It seems that the only competitive advantage this site (temporarily) has is the existing body of content. To that end, gating content might lead to a temporary increase in subscriptions, but will likely decrease the sustainability of interactive stories on w.c as a whole. You will lose users. You will lose authors. And with that loss of community, you lose the incentive that your "whales" have to continue purchasing subscriptions. I, as well as most people, don't seem to be opposed to the idea of bit coin mining while we read. But currently that offers no real reward. Merit Badges, Rewardicons, and in site advertising don't strike me as appealing to the casual user. I'd mine to read without a gate, but certainly not to purchase a digital button. I don't think this is the only solution here, but I do suspect this site will see an exodus of userbase following an exodus of subscribed content creators in the following months and year. I know, for my part, that I've lost most all incentive to write on here, and that the number of favorites I actually check is down to 3 or 4. stories. That doesn't seem good for the authors of my favorite stories, or readers like me. And that seems to be reflected in a decrease in frequency of updates I've seen in my favorites. >This isn't my primary contributing account< I'm not posting this to be malicious, I'm merely sharing my honest perspective on the state of things. The service offered on this site seems decreasingly competitive in the current market. |
