Writing isn't something that can be taught in a school
Maybe not writing as a whole but definitely certain aspects of it. When I edited the drama newsletter eons ago, a lot of the topics I covered were pulled from creative writing classes I took in college. Now each class can be different. My intro to creative writing class helped me really find my focus in poetry and to appreciate the power of language that isn't flowery. When I practiced that, I learned how to tighten my imagery in poetry so it had greater impact on the readers. Narrative technique gave me my first clue about how to work within basic plot structures, something I hadn't really considered even in my independent reading. For me, there was so much emphasis on character development that I never considered plot structure. It actually took me a class to really grasp it.
