So when you say it "is not available," you're saying that you

clicked the cover image on the edit page to open the Cover Image edit light box

(scrolled down and) looked below the three squares for adding a cover

found the Advanced button (inside the light box) and clicked it

And in the area that opened, there was nothing that looked like this:

to remove this item's existing cover, check this box and then complete the edit.
