I agree with Angus. Even if you write in the genre you read, you should be writing the sort of stories nobody else is, filling that little void.

I love sci-fi, and write both hard and soft in that genre, but I also write speculative fiction and find that immensely satisfying.

Writing about the things you know and love provide a rich source of material, so go for it!
