Re: How to enter a contest ?
by Past Member 'northernwrites'
*Dollar* 100 GPs were sent to kuku_here with this post.
First you find a contest you want to enter. There are two main places to look:
In the left nav menu -- Community/Contests.
There's also a member-run page -- "Contest Central Station.

Most of the contests here are run by members rather than the site, which means that you would need to follow the specific directions given in the particular contest item.

Almost all contests tell you to create the entry in an item in your own portfolio.

Then you will enter the contest by submitting information about that item on the contest page. Whichever kind of item is used to house the contest, you submit your entry on the same page

Most contests are run in a Forum item, where an entry is made by posting in the forum. The contest directions may say to post in reply to a particular post, or to use a new post. If it doesn't say, assume they mean to use a new post. This part is done just like you posted here in this forum.

Generally a contest run in a Forum item will ask for a link to the item in your port rather than have you post the entry itself in the Forum item. The contest may also ask for other things, such as a word count and stating which prompt was used. Double check that your entry post contains all the information asked for.

The site contests use a Survey item, which has a form at the bottom to fill out to submit your entry. After you've filled out all the required fields in the survey form, scroll down and click the submit button.

Most contests ask for a b-item link for your entry item. Directions and an example for that are found here:
WritingML Help for b-item

You use the item number of your item when creating the b-item link. You can find the item number in the header of your item. For example, the item number of this forum is 303715. It's located on the third line of the header. The item number is displayed with a #, but the # is not part of the item number. Just use the 7 digits shown after the # in your item.

If these general directions do not explain how to do something a particular contest asks for, then email to ask the contest owner (listed in the header of the item) or whoever is designated within the contest directions to answer questions.

Hope that helps.
