Trying to sort out when to use commas on stacks of adjectives. Coordinate adjectives require commas; cumulative adjectives don't. However, sentences don't always have all of one or the other. Also, a cumulative adjective could be the first or last adjective in the stack and shouldn't get a comma.
Example: We were prepared for a long, tedious planning session.
Here, 'long' and 'tedious' are coordinate adjectives requiring a comma. However, 'planning' is cumulative and does not require a comma. Also, use no comma between an adjective and the noun it modifies.
Example: In order to get home, we must travel over several narrow, winding, treacherous roads.
These adjectives are coordinate requiring commas. However, 'several' is cumulative and does not require a comma.
This is my understanding so far. Let me know if there are any errors. Comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time! 🤔
