In my opinion, that would depend on why you want to introduce the frame story of the mother telling the actual story to her son. What do you want it to do? If it's just a cool idea, then it'll probably add unnecessary words and nothing else (again, just my opinion).

I haven't read the Princess Bride, only seen the movie (I know, shame on me), but in the movie, the frame story serves the purpose of adding to comedic tone and grounding an otherwise ludicrous story in reality by hanging a lantern on the fact that it's a story.
