I need help with a good sentence. I can think of one, but I don't like it because of having to use an "ly" word. The situation is this: My girl is expecting the arrival of her brother and father for Christmas dinner and she is ecstatic about it. They arrive: (my sentence) she anxiously opened the door. In an instant her smile disappeared. I am at odds with this and I can't think of anything better. Quite unsure of structure as well. Can anyone help me out of this rut?
