Just a bit confused:
Hi,

I'm up reading, and I read an article on "How to Write a Great Hook" by Jack Jordan. This article was posted on the "Novelry" site.

He gave examples of what he called "Hooks" for three novels. They are all worded in the same manner.

One of which is "The Oleander Sword" by Tasha Suri, which goes as follows:

A magically gifted priestess and a prophesied empress must work together to destroy a tyrant emperor, for joining forces is the only way to save their kingdom from those who would rather see it burn—even if it threatens to cost them everything they hold dear.

Is this a Hook? It (to me) sounds more like a premise.

I know the hook is meant to grab the reader and make them want to know more. I thought the hook was written at the very beginning of the story.
I went to the Amazon site and called that particular book up. I read the prologue and part of Chapter One; nothing like the above quote was there. It introduces the brother and the priestess.

Am I misunderstanding something?

Thank you,

Kristina
