I'm with the others in that while it would be nice to have different ways to help people with the issue but alas, that is a problem every contest faces. I know Writer's Cramp has days where entries are disqualified. Almost every round of the official site contests that I have judged has had entries disqualified and many are for lack of listing the word count. Years ago, with one of my older contests, I had someone not follow the rules of the contest. I even gave them a review despite that and the response I got was simply, it didn't matter. They said because the contest didn't offer real money prizes, the little rules were not important. When viewing ones own item, they can check the word count. I have checked the word count on a story I'm working on at least three times already and I'm not done writing it. When you view the item, there is the cog icon. Under that is an option to check word count. If you have a list of rules and it includes options for where to post the word count, I say it should be followed to qualify. And if people have questions, they can always email the contest owner or judge or any one of us moderators. I will answer any message or email someone sends with a question, whether I am tech savvy enough or not. That is my 5 cents worth of thoughts, at least. |
