Does sound more like one of the readers compared to an editor. A critique partner is basically like an alpha or beta reader, just with the bonus of you doing the role too. So, instead of worrying about payment, you can offer them your thoughts for their story. The hard part is finding someone who is the right fit. You need someone on the same page that is a good match.
