Cross Timbers was never about increasing sales, it was about improving the quality of your work - necessary if you intend to go the traditional route, but worth it whatever route to publishing you take.
Providing critique on someone's novel is a lot of hard work, so the group presented the work to be reviewed in scenes. It took a long time to critique a whole novel but the improvements to the story were massive and extremely tangible. A story could be transformed from a dull, plot-hole ridden effort written in poor grammar to something worth publishing.
WDC absolutely needs something like Cross Timbers.
