I thinking cutting conjunctions altogether is a guideline with a lot of exceptions. One of my favorite brief descriptions actually includes one ("Compulsion drives us to do bad things, but what defines a bad thing?"). I think conjunctions can be useful when emphasizing a word in a brief description. There may be other cases when a conjunction works well in a brief description.
