I once lived with my dog and cat in a cottage on Welsh Marches. Living in Is-y-coed, which translates to being under the trees in English, was a delightful experience. Perched on an ancient Norman motte and bailey castle, it offered stunning views of the River Dee, Llangollen canal, and Chirk castle. Nine donkeys enjoying their summer break from a sanctuary grazed contentedly in a large meadow across the dead-end narrow lane. The meadow was hemmed by elder, alder, and beech trees, which provided shade for them at different times of the day. I'm convinced those were the happiest moments of my life.
