Wesley Crusher
Wesley Crusher, everybody's favorite ensign to hate, was truly a wasted character. So much potential for the writers and they piddled it away. His character went away just when he was actually getting interesting. Getting out of Starfleet was the best thing they ever did for Wesley but they really wasted an opportunity. When Wesley left Starfleet he was taking a moral stand, I ask why didn't they take that one step further? They could have had Wesley take a moral stand that not only had him resign from Starfleet but actually made him a "political" criminal in their eyes. The dorky "child" ensign could have become a man standing up for what he believed in much to the chagrin of Starfleet. A whole television series could have been created where our "Robin Hood esque" Wesley Crusher evaded Starfleet ships and righted wrongs across the Galxay in a self modified hunk of junk (ala the Millenium Falcon just to steal ever so slightly from Star Wars). He could have a small crew of close friends that feel the same and his nemesis that is constantly trying to bring him to justice could be none other than our newly annointed Captain Riker. (for guest appearances in those ever so cliff hanging season finales)
There are so many angles of the Wesley Crusher character that could be explored now that he no longer is the dorky ensign. The character has so much untapped potential that unfortunatley will never really pan out in the "official" Star Trek saga.
