This was such a moving confession. It was about love hitting one randomly and about missed chances.

Polly cherishes every memory she has of Reid dearly because he was the first male that had such a strong impact in her life and was strongly involved in turning her the person she is today. She made her first experience of love and for her it was confusing and misunderstanding. How could they date, be friends, hold contact through college time and he wouldn't tell her he loves her, too? She's just crashed that she's not capable of saying the three words and doubts his commitment when she didn't hear them from him. Didn't he notice her feelings for him... or misinterpret them?

As she says herself it only took its time until she understood how love and relationships work and it's obvious how she still longs for him. Not knowing if what was back then was really love or imagination and if he felt the same or not ties her up to him and causes her hurt. There's no solution, no clear answer what was or wasn't or still can be, only speculation and as long as it stays this way Polly will be caught in bittersweet memory and a reality that's blurry. She can't move on with her life until she's found this solution, because until then her first - very complicated - love will always spook around in her head and take away from the life she's built in the here and now.
