Overall impression of piece: I like history. Dolly is certainly worth of some preoccupation. Wasn't she also the social planner for Jefferson? I am going by memmory here

What I liked? There is warmth here. I like the grandaugters and husband's reaction. Life is complicated. that why there are so few great people. Interesting parallets between your life and hers. I think the husband's reaction says "YOu are better than you think you are." In general, I think that is truth. Interesting twist on the end

What I disliked: It is kind of an abrubt transition between current problems and Dolly's life. Something like I wonder what my hero Dolly Madison would do? We lose a little of the history of the War of 1812 and what James was doing. She must have been remarkable to do this all herself. Madison is known as the mastermind of the constituion, but in terms of bravery, she held her own. Maybe to look over their shoulder and see flames starting to burn the White House.

How the piece made me feel: I think you have used a historical story to tell a value tale. I think it was pretty well done
