Hi Just an Ordinary Boo!
I carefully read your story, here is my review. Congratulations on your five years with WDC.
Please remember, I'm a writer just like you and these are only my impressions. My ultimate goal is to be helpful and supportive. Thanks for sharing your work.

*BurstBL*OVERALL SENSE: This is quite a spine tingling story. The opening paragraph with the beginning hook drew me in immediately. These are the kind of stories I like, something that is unexplainable that can happen. Granted, I don't want it happening to me, but I love reading about it. You moved the story along nicely where I was beginning to think only Marla could hear the strange keening noise. Where the spirits are talking to her alone and I became worried for her and then later the baby. I think even he could sense something wasn't quite right.

*BulletV*TITLE: The title, The Height Of Sorrow, fits this story. It's also intriguing enough to beckon the reader to see what it could be all about

*BulletV*STYLE/VOICE: The style is dark and ghostly feel to it and the voice stays strong with Marla and what she's feeling and thinking.

*BulletR*SCENE/SETTING: The scene and setting takes place in Marla's large home and she sees the baby rocker rock by itself in the attic. No wind would be making it move.

*Woman**Man*CHARACTERS: Marla, the main character is the owner of the house which was willed to her by her Aunt Sabrina. Her god daughter, Janet and her baby son, Norm are coming to stay with her.

*Thought*PLOT: Marla heard a strange noise coming from the attic. She goes up to check what is making the noise and sees a baby rocker rock by itself. No wind could be making it move so she wonders if she's seeing things in her old age.

*BurstG*GRAMMAR/SPELLING: There are no errors.

*BurstP*AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: NONE

*BulletR*LIKES: The story moved along with exciting scenes that kept my interest.

*BulletR*DISLIKES: I found nothing to dislike.

*BurstB*FAVORITE LINE(S): I have a few favorite lines that I would like to highlight. Then I'll comment on how I think they add to the story.

*Cut* QUOTE HERE: *Cut*“Natalie Burns – 1712 onwards” it proclaimed. “Natalie Burns? That was Sabrina’s great-grandmother. She was the first bride to move into this house. Many is the time I have heard Sabrina talk of her. Poor woman.”

*Idea* My Comment: It's sad when you have a beautiful home, but no kids to enjoy her life with not even a husband that treated her decently.

*Cut* QUOTE HERE: *Cut* “Marla, it is too sad for words. This poor woman was humiliated and abused, vilified and tormented by that brute of a husband.

*Idea* My Comment: So many women go through this abuse quietly back then. They were afraid to rock the boat and get more abused. Such a shame to be treated this way for no reason but that she couldn't have any children.

*BurstR*JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION: Abusive husbands were a thing nobody talked about back then. They were too embarrassed and so quietly took what their husband did to them. This dark story has a sad story behind it too. Thanks for sharing this item! I only review things that I enjoy reading and I truly did enjoy this piece.

My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Go Noticed.

Take care now, keep on writing, I’ll keep on reading,
Jeannie
