Straight to the heart! If this doesn't wake up the bitter old lady in this piece I don't know what would. She certainly has some unresolved resentments to deal with.
It appears she does not know how to communicate effectively. Some people just get stuck. It seems that she is very self absorbed in her "problem".
I find it interesting that her name "Rose" does not match her personality. I wonder what her "twin" sister's name would have been?
I had to slow down to read this part to be able to see it in my mind for some reason "She tipped an oblong woven basket over and used her cane to push the mail into it. Putting the cane through the basket’s handle, she lifted it onto her lap."
