Title

The title of your poem - "A heart is broken" is both self explanatory and final. This poem is not about a happy relationship or a delightful love scene. The reader is aware from the start what kind of poem this will be and as the reader I am encouraged to learn more.

Meaning/themes

True to the title, the poem to me is about a relationship ending. However the poem is very short and simply written so little insight is given in to the circumstances or details of this couple or their break up. Nevertheless despite the simple appearance of the poem, as the reader I am able to read between the lines and put together some of the story - it starts with the disinterest of the writers partner and she knows that something is wrong, arguments begin and accusations thrown and at the end of the poem, the partner leaves and the relationship is over, leaving the writer broken hearted.

Imagery

The imagery in the poem is minimal but specific enough to tell the story. The word "Heart" used repeatedly hammers down how many emotions we can go through in our hearts. The images in the poem are concurrent with what one would imagine at the end of a relationship - eg.the tears, the final words, the broken heart.

Structure/Rhyme etc

At first I was not completely convinced about the short, abrupt style of the poem. It almost felt like it was over before I had any chance to form any opinions or feelings about the poem. However, after reading it a few more times it became much more appealing to me and I see that it is actually quite clever, the way an entire "story" has been described using so few words and such straightforward language.

OVERALL

I enjoyed reading the poem and thinking about it. The style in which it is written is unusual which is always refreshing and it seems like a lot is written in a few words. Perhaps it is up to the reader to fill in the missing links in the story themselves.... *Wink*
