Hello, anthrojourn. My name is Charlie and I’m happy to be reviewing your short story that I found on the "Read a Newbie" page. Thank you for sharing with us and giving me this opportunity to review. The following are just my personal opinions as a reader. I am not a professional. If you find something useful, awesome! If not, feel free to dismiss this. *Cool*

*Questiono* Title

*Infoo* I thought the title "Assumptions" was perfect for this flash fiction story. The title and description caught my attention and made me want to read your story.{size}

*Questionb* Subject Matter and Theme

*Infob* This is a fun little story about a husband who is hiding a secret from his wife. It could be anything, but I love the innocence of the story. Clara is described as being a no nonsense woman, so she's bound to get to the bottom of it. I think we all tend to make assumptions about the people we're around often. Martin makes the assumption that he needs to hide the dog from his wife, but it turns out she's actually okay with keeping the stray as a pet.

*Questionp* Flow and Readability

*Infop* The story had a clear beginning, middle, and end. It held my attention throughout. It was was to read and understand what was happening at each point in the story. The transitions were also smooth from scene to scene.

*Questionbl* Character and Story Development

*Info* I felt like we learned a lot about the characters in such a short amount of time. Clara doesn't seem like the type of person that likes to play games. She is straightforward and aggressive in nature. Her husband, on the other hand, seems a bit timid. I base that on the fact that he's too afraid to tell Clara about the dog. He probably spends a lot of time keeping his wife happy and doesn't want to rock the boat with a stray.
The story developed really well. I wasn't sure what Martin was going to find in the basement. Flash fictions are fun to read when they tell a full story. Your story definitely has main characters, a dilemma, and a resolution.

*Questiong* Tone and Imagery

*Infog* The tone was kind of suspenseful up until the end. We weren't sure what was going to be in the basement. It could have been anything, like another woman or something. In the end, the tone shifts to a lighthearted, fun one. I liked the imagery of Clara pushing past her husband to run down to the basement and find a stray dog. It's funny, if you think about it.

*Questionv* Possible Suggestions

*Infov* I couldn't find any technical suggestions to give you with your story. I think you did a good job with this one. *Thumbsup*

*Questionr* Final Thoughts

*Infor* Overall, I enjoyed reading about Martin and Clara and finding out what was in the basement with them. Thanks again for sharing your story with us!
