Hello Heather

I think the idea behind this fantasy is to show how peaceful the quiet feels without the usual mechanical noises which became part of our conscious life.
" Loud diesel eighteen wheelers moving along, switching gears and squealing brakes echo from the metropolis."
It is a picture of life that certainly holds my attention. I can't imagine our life without the noise of fire trucks, the road traffic even in the middle of the night. You have graphically shown the absence of noise pollution.

Its a meaningful reverie on peaceful surrounds and what such life does to the spirit. You notice things which you never had before the silence took over. Simple things that bring us peace and tranquility get noticed if there is quiet around.
"I could hear the shuffle of our dog's paws on the hall floor. " or "The wind rustled the leaves of the trees outside my bedroom window."

But is it possible is the underlying question. It is something for all to decide about. whether we want noise or quiet.

The article is worth thinking about.
