Hello Jess,

so here we are, another campfire poem and another trio of criteria nailed ~ with cherries on top. I am once again in awe. It's not just that your very best poems are the best I've read by anybody but the consistency you somehow maintain no matter what else is going on in your life and in your head. That's a very sweet gift to have. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you don't have to work at your poems. I know you do but they flow so well and appear so effortless. That's a skill I wish I had. Not selling myself short, I know I've written some poems to be proud of but I just don't have your consistency.

Anyway this current poem is no exception. I imagine the strict requirements of the form must make it very difficult to get the poem to flow but you do. You have a great ear as I've said many times before. I really like your rhyme words here ~ particularly the 'feel / keel / steal' rhyme is very effective when the poem is read aloud.

This is obviously quite a dark, very personal poem and very emotive. It takes courage to go so deep in yourself and create such beautiful art from the pain inside. Did I say I was in awe already? I really love your line where you write 'life is like a sun that's been eclipsed. So sad. So true for too many people. I've certainly had times when I've seen life that way myself but in one metaphor you really capture that feeling ~ that level of despair ~ so succinctly.

I hope you'll find more moments of sunshine in your life soon.
