Hello, . My name is Charlie and I’m happy to be reviewing your short story that I found on the "Read a Newbie" page. Thank you for sharing with us and giving me this opportunity to review. The following are just my personal opinions as a reader. I am not a professional. If you find something useful, awesome! If not, feel free to dismiss this. *Cool*

*Questiono* Title

*Infoo* The title makes sense because the scarf in the story symbolizes the loving relationship between mother and son. She gave him the scarf and it continues to comfort him even when she isn't around.{size}

*Questionb* Subject Matter and Theme

*Infob* This story is about a mother's love for her son as he grows up and the sentimental value of material items. The item here is a gray scarf that the mother gave the boy when she wanted to keep him warm. As he grows older, his schoolmates make fun of him for the scarf, because they don't think it's cool. But in the end, he realizes that it's an item of comfort that was given to him by someone he loves, so he appreciates it for that. I think the theme is to not let people make your opinions for you. He liked his scarf, but stopped wearing it when he was teased. It gives him comfort and he likes it, so he should make that decision for himself.

*Questionp* Flow and Readability

*Infop* The story transitioned smoothly between frames of time and had a clear beginning, middle, and end. It held my attention throughout and I feel that we can all relate to the sentimental attachment you get from something like this.

*Questionbl* Character and Story Development

*Info* We get to know a lot about the main character and his mother. She seems to love him unconditionally and she's understanding of every decision he makes. They seem to have a really great relationship at all points in the story, even when he isn't so happy with his life in high school. It's nice to see that things look up for him in college. I'm sure life is this way for many people.
The fact that the two of them are able to talk about his issues with depression and cutting just goes to show how strong the bond between the two of them are. Many parents wouldn't understand this situation and wouldn't know what to do when presented with it. While his mother doesn't understand what the self injury does for him, she does understand that her son is going through a difficult time, so she wants to be there for him.

*Questionv* Possible Suggestions

*Infov* There were some small technical issues that I thought might need a second look. I don't think words like 'kindergarten' and 'elementary' need to be capitalized. In the last paragraph, there is a typo where it says, "...better time than highs school..."

*Questionr* Final Thoughts

*Infor* Overall, I thought this was an interesting topic to write about. It's cool to see how the relationship between the two of them changes throughout his life. Thanks again for sharing with us.
