The theme is new and the revelations of the hassles of a newborn famous writer are narrated with humor and satire. It shows that to be famous might not be everyone's cup of tea. But, there is a price to pay to get established in the hallowed world of writers.
Apart from her present problem of attending monotonous lunch parties, it is interesting to read of her way to success. Just an ordinary housewife making it to the top of the success-ladder is not a daily occurrence. Having been behind the scenes for a long time wilting under the shadow of an indifferent husband of shady present, Monica's apprehensions and the sense of ennui are quite natural, and they are brought out naturally through apt language and style.
As for the driver's ambiguous statement, it couldn't have meant anything more than the fact that she was going to be center of attraction. After all it was not a vampire banquet. It certainly carries a germ of apprehension.
