I so enjoyed this poem about the killdeer nesting. I am a ardent birdwatcher and love to study the varieties of birds coming to my area at different times of the year. Of course trying to keep squirrels from taking all the bird seed is a chore.

You described this bird's habits during nesting time and how precious the little ones are to watch. I admire the bravery of the father bird as he wards off hunters by bluffing hunters away from the nesting site.

This past spring I was overjoyed to find a robin's nest on my porch beam, when I returned from Florida. I was fascinated with the the parents and their rituals of guarding and tending to the nest. I could see the blue eggs clearly from my second floor window, and watched as they appeared -- little fluff=balls with large beaks. Precious! I saw as they left the nest one by one. Unforgettable. I took pictures that will always remind me of this special time. Hopefully they'll return to start another family next spring.

I guess this is why I chose this particular poem of yours. I am a bird lover.

"The chicks do all scatter"
This line seemed a little awkwardly stated. It made me pause a moment.

Perhaps: The chicks will all scatter (It gets rid of the awkward word "do.")
