Although there is no harm in being honest with children while telling them the names of private parts, perhaps we should give some thought to people like your mom. They are rather flabbergasted at such a thing. We cannot presume that the older generation was not being honest or that they were playing false when the gave the children some fancy names for certain parts of human anatomy. Considering the fact that it takes not much longer for the kids to learn the original names, I think we could do with the old practices. True, it may be amusing to listen to such originality coming out of the babes' mouths. Yet, fact remains that those are not for them to talk about. It creates an air of unease and it reflects on the parents as well.
I also notice that it quite embarrasses the elder person when a kid asks him or her, "How old are you?"
