Hello Jess,

congratulations on your first foray into Steampunk! A very successful debut in a new genre it is too. I am so impressed with this. The rhythm you establish here is breathtaking. It works well on the page/screen but also flows beautifully when read aloud. Such pace! You tell a cracking good story too, with a twist ending I didn't see coming. you have a very poignant ending.

The rhythm is so fitting to the subject of the poem -- as reflected in the well-chosen title.

You use half rhymes to really great effect -- 'cold/soul' and 'trains/waned'.

Your descriptions are fantastic as always -- I was particularly captivated with the stanza describing the clock-maker at work. I could really visualise it.

Great work. Really original. Congratulations for having this featured in this week's poetry newsletter!
