A very human and humorous take on retirement. Sleeping till late in the morning, take a relaxed attitude in everything you do will do for a while after retirement. But a day comes when you are left with no options except to make a definite plan for yourself and make it fruitful. Nothing comes to an end just because of retirement. Real drama of life comes after retirement when you are alone and face yourself, which in itself is a great challenge.
I like the leisurely pace at which the author shows the graph of life after retirement. The tentative plans and the more lasting ones are on the table. Yet, it is not an easy task to change the routine of 36 years. A little confusion over the setting of a definite schedule is natural after a long span of active life in the teaching profession, which is truly dynamic for self and for others. I could see the euphoria of doing what you want lasts for a week or two and then? This vexatious question is well answered by the author. The goals are now more more practical. Both body and mind need exercise irrespective of being busy or retired. So that doesn't change, which fills the day, for both are task masters that keep you on your heels and alert though the day. So, where is retirement? In fact, I see you getting busier by the day.
"The hardest one will be to get in shape. I must insure that this body can keep up. However the most important thing I can do is to be grateful, to find joy and awe in each moment by staying connected to Spirit."
