This is a Simply positive Review.

I enjoyed this story. It covered a spectrum of emotions; loneliness, love, sorrow and joy -- they were all there entwined within the lines and though the mind of this old man who missed his wife so much.

It is sad when lifetime partners are separated by death and the one remaining can't begin to live again. It's as if the clock on his life wound down when she left.

The reader could pick up easily on his emotions, especially during the painting of the scene on the empty canvas. I thought it was beautiful to watch him bring to life his favorite place, a place which held so many wonderful memories for the couple in their youth. Each stroke also painted a clear picture in the reader's mind. The clouds, layers of light in the sky and the young woman appreciating every moment of it was very clear.

The reader sees the cabin being constructed stroke after stroke by the artist's paintbrush. No need to describe each tone and shadow, for the mind's eye could fill that in handily.

Lovely!

Observation:

"the sun barley stretching over the horizon," [barely]

This was a touching story, bittersweet, gentle and joyous all rolled into one.
