I sometimes wonder why it is that we try to teach children valuable lessons via stories where horrible things happen to children. *Laugh* Of course, there is a level of cruelty in the question Zamora asks at the beginning, knowing that the toad couldn't have gone anywhere, and reminding him of that fact wasn't very nice. But still, it seemed a disproportionate punishment to make her swap places with the toad. Although, come to think of it, the readers didn't find out how the toad came to be under the glass to begin with. Perhaps in time, Zamora will find someone else to trap and go free in their place.

The toad's descriptions of the power of imagination didn't fool Zamora at first, she was aware that being in the real world and experiencing it rather than just thinking or dreaming about it was better. In the end, however, her curiosity got the better of her, and that was her downfall. I liked the simplicity of the toad's arguments and the repetition that he was content with his fate as it ultimately sounded convincing enough for Zamora to give it a try. Of course, she hadn't thought through the consequences of her actions and the toad, once free, had no intention to return to the prison he praised so highly before.

The story briefly raised the question whose reality was actually 'real', before it turned out that the philosophising toad wasn't trying to impart his wisdom in such an eloquent way, he had an entirely different goal. A very intriguing tale not just for children.
